About Cranky Pilates

My name is Caroline Taylor

I named my studio Cranky Pilates after a nickname that started on my Instagram. I used to teach at a studio with 12 reformers running at once, beginners in advanced classes, injured clients in classes they had no business taking, and I had to set my own standards for form aside just to keep the room moving.

It made me cranky. Not rude, just done pretending that was good teaching. The name stuck because it’s honestly just who I am, focused on form, out of patience for classes that are more performance than practice.

The studio is fully equipped, reformers, Cadillac, chair, the whole classical setup, so nothing about your session is limited to one piece of equipment. And yes, I hold you to real form. But I’m not interested in making a workout feel like punishment. I want you to walk through the door being exactly who you are that day. Exercise already fights for last place on most people’s to do list, so if we’re doing this, we’re going to laugh while we do it.

Caroline is hands-down the best Pilates instructor I’ve encountered in nearly two decades of practice. Since starting Pilates group classes in 2005, I’ve worked with countless instructors, but none compare to Caroline. I met her 13 years ago at Yoga Works in Walnut Creek and immediately switched to private lessons with her—and I’ve never looked back!

Caroline has an incredible ability to challenge you while making every session approachable and empowering. Her expertise and personalized approach keep me coming back. I split my time between Texas and the Bay Area, and the first thing I do when I’m back in town is book my weekly private sessions with Caroline. If you’re looking for a transformative Pilates experience, Caroline is the instructor you need!

About Caroline

I've spent 18 years teaching Pilates, working within the classical method the way Joseph Pilates built it. Form and precision aren't optional, they're the whole point. My training started with 650 hours of the real, foundational stuff. No shortcuts, no weekend certificate. But the real education has come since then: hundreds of clients, hundreds of "here's what's actually going on with my body" conversations, and a lot of figuring out what the textbook doesn't tell you.

I work with people who've been told Pilates might help. Frozen shoulders, knee injuries, hip replacements, pregnancy, spines that have opinions about eight hours a day in a desk chair. My goal isn't just good form in the studio. It's body awareness that goes home with you, into how you sit, how you move, how you carry yourself the other 23 hours of the day. If that's the kind of studio you're looking for, I'd love to meet you on the reformer.
